The significance of being a cusp
    Dear Michelle ,
It is always seen that astrology answers to questions of all the Zodiac signs , but what about those who are born on a cusp ???

Like for example .. Pisces-Aries Cusp , Aries-Tauraus cusp and all the others …
Do such individuals display traits of both the signs… ? How does it influence their life ?
I am a Pisces and Aries cusp … Born on the 21st of March …

Michelle Astrology dp Michelle YoungJun 5, 2007
    Hi Nimita,

Sun sign astrology answers questions of all the zodiac signs–and speaks about people being born on a cusp. I’m delighted you asked this because I’ve been dying to say this. lol

The cusp simply means the point between two signs (or two houses on the chart). It means little beyond that. Why? Because you’re more than a Sun sign.

The heavens are constantly in motion, and they won’t return to the exact time you were born for another estimated 25828 years (based on NASA–the US National Aeronautical Space Administration–estimated calculations) after your birth. Twins don’t even have precisely the same charts.

When the chart is calculated, we’re looking at 12 houses divided unevenly (unless it’s the Equal House system) into that 360° circle, and then the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto each being calculated and inserted into that circle, known as the wheel. All of the planets will not fit into one sign. I can’t even fathom such a time that such a thing would be likely to occur!

The tightest chart I’ve ever seen was with all of the planets and luminaries tightly locked into 67° of that 360° wheel. But that still means all of the planets and luminaries were not in the same sign–and even then, there’s no guarantee that the Sun would be on the cusp.

It’s not a matter of which of two signs has “more” of you, but rather the whole chart. And believe me, if all of someone’s planets and luminaries were in one sign–or “on the cusp”–you would notice that person was irritatingly predictable and had nothing for you to discover. 🙂 Do such individuals display traits of both the signs… ? How does it influence their life?

Therefore, they don’t necessarily display traits of both signs. It depends on the entire chart. It doesn’t influence their lives at all. The chart simply symbolizes your own energies, nothing more. You are very much your own person with your own choices. 🙂

    Hope that helps.

Honestly, I don’t believe there’s anything called cusp. Based on your date and year of birth, you’re born under one sun sign, not too. But then, it’s my thinking. 🙂

You’re most welcome to put your question in “Got questions” thread as that is the right place for any of astrology related questions, you have for Michelle to answer.

this thread will be deleted in a couple of hours. Don’t get offended please, this is nothing against you. It’s just that we, in this community, prefer to keep all these questions in one thread. In fact, if you put in some time, you can most probably find your question answered somewhere in that thread.

    Welcome to the community! 🙂

No worries. Nitin and I just chuckled over his realization that he was writing his message while I had already posted. lol

I’d say the thread is safe for a bit. 🙂

That depends on your exact date and year, time and place of birth, Nimita. If you’d like to send me your data privately (on the left side of each person’s profile page, you’ll see “send message”), I’ll be happy to do a quick peek and tell you whether you’re a Pisces or an Aries. 🙂 I’ll also tell you whether you have more planets in Pisces or Aries, if you’d like. 😉

    Nimita Nimita.. Work – Life Balance …Jun 7, 2007
    ya sure. i have sent u a mssg …

Michelle Astrology dp Michelle YoungJun 9, 2007
Well, you’re an Aries, with your Sun at 00° 12′ of Aries. In order for you to have been a Pisces, you’d have had to have been born before 9:10 am that day, so even if your time isn’t precisely correct in this case, you can say you’re an Aries. 😉

For the record, btw, you only have one planet–Mercury–in Pisces, and you have only two in Aries–the Sun (a luminary) and Jupiter. Your Moon, Saturn and Uranus are in Sagittarius, caught in a stellium (3 or more planets conjunct within what’s considered reasonable to be a 0° orb).

And this is exactly why I say that cusps mean little–just as Sun sign astrology is fluff. 😉

    Nimita Nimita.. Work – Life Balance …Jun 9, 2007
voila ! A lot of it has gone over my head michelle, but thanx anywayz !

Proud to be an Ariean ! 🙂

Please don’t write in shorthand/SMS language. It’s very difficult for me to understand.

Please read this entire thread. Then note the following:

You haven’t given me your data, nor should you have in here. In a private message (my profile page, “send message”), please send me where you were born (city, state, nation) and your data again. I’m going to delete your post to retain your privacy with that data.

    Thank you for understanding.

….and i do not know what you meant by thread…

The entire discussion “The significance of being a cusp” is called a thread. When you reply to a thread, your message is called a post.

anyways i appreciate you for keeping my privacy….

Well, I can’t protect your privacy if you keep posting in this thread with your data when I had requested you to send me a private message. Private messages are sent to individuals by going to their profile and clicking on “send message” on the left side of the page.

I’m again deleting your post to protect your privacy. i want to know my sign that if im cusp which sign rules me the most whether im more picean or aquarian…do tell me the qualities that i have under that sign…thnkyou

Since you don’t have an exact time of birth, I can’t tell you your ascendant. You have an Aquarius Sun. (The Sun that day went into Pisces at 5 PM (17:00 hours) Lahore time.) That is the only luminary or planet you have in Aquarius. Mercury is the only planet you have in Pisces. Your Moon is in Aries.

I’m not getting into the qualities you have as a Sun in Aquarius because it’s opens the door to stereotyping. You have many more planets in your chart, and they all must be considered to paint a picture of what you’re like.

Michelle Astrology dp Michelle YoungJul 23, 2007
No. There is no way your Sun is on what’s called a Virgo-Libra cusp. Your Sun is definitely in Virgo.

But for the record, the cusp actually refers to a line dividing two houses in the astrological chart, nothing more. Some astrologers will tell you the Sun so close to the next sign indicates that you have a bit of the next sign in you. That’s not necessarily true. You can be born that close to the next sign and have nothing in the next sign. I have a good friend who has the Sun exactly on the 0° mark of one sign and a few planets in the sign before. So he’s actually more of the sign before than he is much of his Sun sign.

Well I believe that too…. that the cusp is only a starting point of a house. Also i know that one person can have only one sun sign. But what my problem is according to the astrodienst my sun is in scorpio but all the solar transits I have I feel are according to libra. Saturn has recently shown exaltation for me and the sun always falls for my solar houses and of course mars is detrimental for my solar house transits.

Pooja, one of the problems I see in your explanations is your effort to label everything. I’m not trying to embarrass you in my comments here, rather I’m trying to help you and many others who tend to do this.

What do you see as “Saturn has recently shown exaltation?” How do you define Saturn exalted beyond your knowing it’s in Libra? What about Mars in detriment? My point here is it’s fine to say you know to identify them, but what do they mean to you? Let’s get some quality thinking going on, shall we? 🙂 My nature is completely confused types like librans. Is it a possibility that the people born around the cusp of a sign might be the other sign than what the date suggests???

First of all, who says Libra is “completely confused?” I noted about the “cusp” of a sign in my comment to Darsana. You’ll probably find that interesting, but don’t automatically mistake it as your being one sign versus another. Is it possible that your signature is in Libra? Consider other reasons why this might be the case.

I’ll be deleting your post to retain your privacy.

You have a Scorpio rising, the Sun in Capricorn (0°16′) in an out-of-sign conjunction to the Moon in Sagittarius.

This community, however, is not established for free personal chart interpretation. Sorry. You can, however, get a free computerized interpretation and forecast by looking in this thread:

    Hope that helps. 🙂

    IF yes I agree.

Did you say that cusps are awfully predicatble!?
    IF yes I agree.

Cusps are only predictable if you understand that the only part of any chart that is or can be a cusp is the line between any two houses. There is no such thing as a “cusp” of two signs when it comes to someone’s Sun. You either are one sign or the other. It’s impossible to be both. You can carry many traits of several signs, but you absolutely cannot be two Sun signs or two Moon signs or two of any planet signs. The word “cusp” in relation to the luminaries and planets is a misnomer. It’s only the line between two houses, nothing more. (And yes, I have heard these Sun sign astrologers who will tell you otherwise. 🙂 It’s not true.)
