Michelle Young – May 23, 2012
Romantic that I am, when I heard about this story, it reminded me of Eric Clapton and one song in particular of his:
The lyrics to Clapton’s version of “Layla” are worth the comparison to the story, so I’ll offer them here as well as the song itself. This one is startling though. It’s not the original version you may or may not have heard. This one was performed in New York City in 2011 with a distinct New Orleans jazz sound enhancing the 12-minute performance. Whether or not you have ever heard this one, take time to listen to the most recent version. It’s incredible!
What’ll you do when you get lonely
And nobody’s waiting by your side?
You’ve been running and hiding much too long.
You know it’s just your foolish pride.
Layla, you’ve got me on my knees.
Layla, I’m begging, darling please.
Layla, darling won’t you ease my worried mind.
I tried to give you consolation
When your old man had let you down.
Like a fool, I fell in love with you,
Turned my whole world upside down.
Let’s make the best of the situation
Before I finally go insane.
Please don’t say we’ll never find a way
And tell me all my love’s in vain.
